Feeling Green? Your Hair Should Be Too (But, Like, in a Good Way)

Ah, March. The month of shamrocks, rainbows, and everything green. But while you’re out celebrating St. Patty’s Day, there's one place where green isn't just about luck. I’m talking about the kind of green that lives in hair color formulas.
I know, I know. Green? In hair? It sounds like a recipe for an accidental mermaid moment, but it is my secret sauce! And because I love y’all, I have to put you on!
Green: The Little-Talked-About MVP of Hair Color

The color wheel doesn't lie! Green sits directly across from red on the color wheel, which means it has the power to neutralize unwanted red tones. This is key for those times when hair color turns out warmer than expected or when you’re aiming for a cooler, more balanced shade.
Listen, warm brown is gorgeous when that’s what you want, but when you’re aiming for a sultry brunette base color, and your hair has other plans, a little green in the mix makes sure your deep brown stays on track instead of throwing an unexpected auburn party.
Whether you’re neutralizing an oops moment (like that one box dye adventure you had in college) or just fine-tuning a shade to be more neutral and rich, green is a must-have in any color correction situation.
My Favorite Salon Trick

Alright, now I'll let you all in on a little extra hairstylist sauce. I have a client with naturally dark hair that always pulls red in the sun—no matter what. But she doesn’t want to see ANY of that invasive red. She wants the deepest, longest-lasting, unapologetic BLACK. And here’s the thing—sometimes, blue-black just isn’t black enough.
So, what do I do? I add green to her all-over black formula. Yep. That extra touch of green keeps the red from creeping through and gives her that ultra-deep, pure black that actually stays black. No warm glow, no brownish fade—just straight-up, inky perfection. She loves it, I love it, and the mossy, emerald tones sitting in the salon color cabinet that are so often neglected love it.
Say It With Me Now. GREEN!

Our girl green is a powerhouse, and if you’re not careful, you can go from “correcting red” to “accidentally muddy” real quick. We’re here for rich brunettes, not forest nymphs. So, a little goes a long way.
Moral of the story? Green might not be the first color that comes to mind when you think of hair color, but it’s secretly making sure brunettes stay rich, box dye mishaps get fixed, and even black stays black.
Now I hope you enjoy your St. Patty’s Day, and if you happen to be rocking a gorgeous, balanced brunette, give a little nod to the power of green.
